Almost Settled, 2026
Almost Settled (2025–) is an ongoing series of site responsive jewelling gestures made in conversation with a barely used car park in Te Aro, Wellington. Working only with material fragments already present in the environment—ceramic shards, weathered metal, architectural remnants—the project treats locality as something alive and continually forming. Each small intervention acts as an attunement device, drawing attention to the overlooked textures, histories, and rhythms that shape how a place is witnessed and felt.
A provisional mosaic is inlaid into the abraded parking line; gaffer tape brooches across cracks in a wall; exposed studs suspend found metal like an improvised earring. Rather than decorating or resolving the site, these gestures stay with its contingencies and the conditions already present.
Jewelling becomes a verb rather than a form—an active mode of noticing that shifts jewellery from something worn on the body to something that mediates between bodies and place. Through these quiet minor gestures, Almost Settled invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and encounter locality as a dynamic, fragmentary, and continually unsettled field.
